We maintain the oldest relic of the Berlin Wall, the former GDR watch tower near Potsdamer Platz. There we illuminate, via a profound historical context, the constantly posed question: "where was the wall?" to international visitors, school groups, and students. This includes the ever more perfected border fortifications, standing guard on the tower, and the changing topography after reunification. As visitors ascend the ladders leading to the canopy, they get a whiff of the Cold War.

Cold War Interests:

"On the phone you say diddly-squat", Installation
From the gunports of the tower cabin dangle telephone receivers. Listeners witness surveillance tapes of private calls that were cut by Stasi-workers. In addition, the voices of visitors are recorded and 'intercepted' in the tower cabin.
